Cisco certification matters

Jobs in IT can have a shelf life if you don't continue to keep yourself up to speed with the latest development within your particular field. In fact IT moves at such a rate that you should probably be keeping an eye on what is happening outside of your particular area of expertise. To this end there are any number of websites and companies offering training in any number of area's. However one of the benchmarks for networking or security professionals is the Cisco certification.

The Cisco Learning Network is a brilliant repository of information on everything to do with Cisco certification. It is not just a portal to training courses, although it has all the courses listed, information on each course, the requirements and helpful guides to the courses, but it has a social element as well.

A Cisco qualification can change your CV (Resume). The Ultimate goal is to get CCNA qualified (Associate level) but that is a matter of stages. The first stage is CCENT - this is a perfect qualification for entry level positions. Of course there are further levels as well such as professional and expert. Each level will generate interest in your CV and will open doors for you. As your career progresses, each additional qualification will allow you to move up the ladder.

As a security professional getting a CCENT in Security will get you noticed. Such a qualification will let potential employers known that you have what it takes to do the job, learn the job and succeed in an IT security role.

I work in IT auditing and security is of paramount importance. Working toward a CCNA security certificate gives you the skills that matter. It gives you confidence when dealing with operational professionals charged with network management. It allows you to work at such a detailed level, that from an Auditing perspective there is comfort both for yourself and your Audit partners that you will not miss anything when risk assessing networks.
